Museum of Modern Greek Art

The Museum of Modern Greek Art is a non-profit foundation at the service of the local society, open to all people regardless of nationality, origin or religion. Its aims are the research, acquisition, study, preservation, exhibition and promotion of works of art that have been created in Greece or that relate to the Greek culture, during modern times mostly, namely from 15th century and onwards, and more specifically from the foundation of the modern Greek state (1832) and onwards. The main goals of its activities are the promotion of the above-mentioned to the local, national and international public, and especially in a coherent cultural, educational, national and social contect. The Museum of Modern Greek Art is a Legal Public Entity that exhibits, upkeeps and renews collections of painting, engraving and sculpture of Modern Greek Art and aims at informing and educating the public on issues of arts and culture. During the last 5 years the Museum has created the Department of Educational Programs, which is creatively cooperating with the Primary and Secondary Education Offices, the University of the Aegean, as well as many other organizations. The specialized personnel organizes educational programs and offers a wide variety of workshops and educational material to the children and adolescents of Rhodes, Dodecanese and the rest of Greece. At the same time, the Museum, according to the international museum practice, publishes books and catalogues of Art, educational books and digital publications for children, produces museum merchandise and gifts that expand modern Greek art and promote the creators to the everyday life of the public and the next generations.

International Writers and Translators' Centre

The International Writers and Translators' Centre, under the name Waves of Three Seas was created in 1996, following a declaration of peace and cultural cooperation, signed by 400 writers from 30 countries, during a trip in the Black Sea, two years before. Its aim is to become an independent centre of free speech, tolerance and peace, a Forum of meetings for writers and translators, based on the vision of an intellectual Europe.

The International Writers and Translators' Centre offers accommodation to writers, translators, poets, members of literary associations of the Three Seas (Baltic, Black Sea, Aegean) – organizes conferences, seminars, translation workshops, publications, books' presentations, literary - poetic evenings, participates in European projects related to culture, etc.

The activities of the Cultural Organization of the Municipality of Rhodes (DOPAR), according to its statutes, are oriented towards "developing and offering artistic events,cultivating the artistic feeling and promoting local folklore, artistic and cultural activities".

The Medieval Rose is a non-governmental and not-for-profit cultural organisation that was founded in 2005 in order to establish, organise and run the Medieval Festival οf Rhodes during which the history, the traditions and legends of Medieval Rhodes are recreated through happenings, workshops and games. Τhe Medieval Festival was realized in May 2007 with the aim to be established on a regular annual basis. With the exploitation of the wonderful scenery of the Medieval Town of Rhodes , the events and re-enactments that the Medieval Rose organizes re-animate the Byzantine and Medieval history of the island while all of the organization’s activities draw upon the triptych of: Education – Culture – Cultural tourism.

Arte Con Anima (ACA) is a non-profit organization that since 2004 organises the Rhodes International Piano Competition in Greece.


Rhodes International Festival of Music
→ September | Palace of the Grand Master/The Rhodes International Festival under the Artistic Direction of the Cultural Manager Penelope Serdari, under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture, Education and Religious Affairs & the Hellenic National Commission for Unesco, is organised by «Rhodes International Festival», a non profit Cultural Organisation for the dissemination of the Arts, and the Municipal Culture and Sports Organization of Rhodes, with the support of the Greek National Tourism Organization-GNTO. The festival has been recognized as one of the most successful festivals in Greece, earning excellent reviews as well as the support of mass media and every year it attracts music enthusiasts from Greece and abroad.



Rodοs International Films + Visual Arts Festival Ecofilms
→The Rodos International Films & Visual Arts Festival Ecofilms is a thematic festival in Greece, one of the most important environmental film festivals in world and co-founder of Environmental Films Festival Network (EFFN). The Rodοs International Films + Visual Arts Festival Ecofilms is supported by the Dodecanese Prefecture Culture Organization, the Rodos Cinema Society and the Greek Film Centre, under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture and the General Secretariat of Communication and Information. The Rodοs International Films + Visual Arts Festival Ecofilms invites the participation of documentaries, short films and feature films with environmental and ecology themes, promoting conservation issues and issues related to the natural, the human and urban environment. Prizes are awarded to the films for their innovative approach in conservation issues, for their daring proposal in subject matter and their artistic qualities overall. The International jury awards prizes for both the international and national competition categories and the two audience awards are coordinated by the Rodos Cinema Society.
